Ten years ago, Dyson, the vacuum giant, suddenly dropped the Supersonic hair dryer release bombshell. The glimpse: it was as if those iconic bladeless fans began taming hair! The move stoked intrigue, daring to open up a much bolder front for the company. Since then, and much to the disorder of the beauty landscape, they’ve kept churning out behemoths that have become instant-studios-worthy like the Airwrap, which has been endlessly copied by many. That is not the end of the story, though. While testing the waters for immersive audio via OnTrac headphones, a much more risqué (some would say dystopian) Zone was born fed by purifying masks, no less. All through the storm, Dyson continued craftily fine-tuning cordless vacuums that we all secretly needed.
Dyson’s shrunk the vacuum, not your expectations. Meet the PencilVac, a clean reinvention claiming the honor of world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner. Their secret? The same hyper-speed motor used in their Supersonic hair dryer powers this mighty little pocket-sized gizmo.
Gone are the days of hauling around dust-busting machines. Redefining cleaning with its radical streamlined design, the PencilVac is imagined to be a slim cylinder, beautifully phallic in a pure vacuum of suction power, with absolutely no awkward bin or forceful motor housing weighing it down on its journey towards dust gripping. When you need pure power for the mess, drop the “Fluffycones” attachment, a truly brilliant wildcard from Dyson. The vacuuming revolution awaits.
Have you ever wrestled with hair wrapped around your vacuum brush? The vacuum has, in all, four counter-rotated cones across two brush bars specifically designed to actively repel and eject the longest strands of hair from the dreaded hair-wrap nightmare. What with laser lights shining on dust bunnies in the shadow, you will never miss a speck. Now, for the truly clean sweep.

Nipping dust from the most awkward nooks and crannies, the PencilVac is as light as air, weighing in at just 3.96 pounds (1.8kg). Its thin body, roughly 1.5 inches (38mm) in diameter, makes it quite comfortable, no matter where you choose to grasp it, turning cleaning above into an enjoyable task.
To achieve the PencilVac’s signature pencil-like shape, Dyson engineers had to embark upon a drastic component rearrangement. At its very heart lies the novel Hyperdymium 140k motor, which in the words of the company is the smallest high-speed motor ever made, having a minuscule diameter of only 28 mm and rotating at expert blinding fast speed! To complement the motor comes the dust compression mechanism that effectively squeezes every inch of space in the bin. Astoundingly, a transparent bin sits right in the middle of the cylinder, offering a stunning view of the dust being sucked inward. I cannot help but say the waves of satisfaction and pangs of remorse ran through me during the demo, as the crushed crumbs of Lotus Biscoff disappeared into the dust vortex.
Not let its small size fool you: the Hyperdymium 140k is a real force to reckon with. From my very few test runs, it ravenously ate Cheerios, obliterated cookies, and powerfully disposed of whatever other household debris laying in its path. Maneuvering the lightweight wonder was ridiculously easy: it literally glided above treacherous terrains of crumbs and scattered snacks. Except that one slight hiccup-the locking mechanism required a bit of finesse. It had to be placed in a perfectly vertical stance; a satisfyingclickis heard, and then and only then could I really trust the tripod to not perform some dramatic descent to the floor.
Dyson never thought of just putting an extra filter on. Instead, they created a novel system. Picture this: a strong whirlwind forming inside the vacuum, carefully guiding dust and debris away from the airflow, almost like the maestro conducting an orchestra so as not to cause clogging and ensure maximum cleaning power of the vacuum. But that is just the beginning of I would say: more wonders. Now Dyson’s unique two-stage linear dust separation system functions as a micro-bouncer who rejects 99.99% of particles 0.3 microns in size. Purified air is all that gets out into the home, so that your home is truly clean.
Yet, the magic is in the so-called air-compressing bin of PencilVac, an engineering wonder purported to compress five times the amount of trash in its now seemingly small 0.08L capacity. In my admittedly unscientific experiments, the PencilVac seemed almost eager to prove its capability, compacting dust and crumbs with surprising efficiency. Does it really reach that 0.4L capacity? I would leave that to an experimenter with a more meticulous eye than mine.

Emptying the PencilVac is meant to be an entirely hands-free procedure, thanks to Dyson’s “hygienic syringe bin ejection system.” Imagine a regular syringe turned backward: it ejects dust bunnies instead of injecting fluid. Although I did not try it with the hands-off method myself, from what a Dyson engineer showed, it looks fairly simple: the cleaner head gets detached, PencilVac gets pointed downward into a trash can, and the transparent housing slid up and down. Unfortunately, a few crumbs remained sticking to the inner walls of the housing. Luckily, it can be cleaned extensively by detaching the shell and the filters for thorough washing.
Fifty-nine minutes of clean air with an electrifying power core set for interchange. Charging is accomplished with a breeze by the magnetic dock. Dyson puts forward the company’s first connected cleaner!! Through this very app of MyDyson, battery life, settings, and maintenance alerts will be under your fingertips, so there won’t be any guessing when to clean the filter anymore. A short glance at the LCD screen on the handle will reveal your power mode and remaining runtime, keeping you in control through the cleaning process. Real buttons result in instantaneous control of your cleaning experience.
The price for the Dyson PencilVac is still under wraps, but don’t expect it anytime soon in the US! This pocket-sized bruiser will remain landlocked in states until 2026. The rest of the world will have it sooner.
