Time flies when you’re having fun, and Playdate Season Two has been a whirlwind! Week five is upon us, signaling the imminent end of our delightful game drops. But fear not, the latest duo is here to entertain! Prepare to scale treacherous heights inTiny Turnip, a charming metroidvania where every climb is a victory. Or, if you prefer a dash of the bizarre, dive intoChance’s Lucky Escape, a point-and-click adventure that embraces the wonderfully absurd. Just like the rest of Season Two’s consistently brilliant lineup, these games are guaranteed to deliver a hefty dose of fun.
Tiny Turnip
Luke Sanderson
“Tiny Turnip wormed its way into my heart this season, a bizarre little gem I couldn’t resist. It’s the perfect blend of head-scratching puzzles and addictive gameplay, sinking its roots deep until I was hopelessly hooked. Oh, and the soundtrack? Absolute earworm brilliance.”
Once upon a time, a humble turnip dared to dream beyond the soil. Gazing at the celestial tapestry, it wished – a wish that sprouted arms and set it on an impossible climb toward the heavens.
Embark on a vibrant, sprawling Metroidvania adventure as this root vegetable ascends into the unknown. Precise leaps of faith are your currency as you navigate treacherous gaps, dance with moving obstacles, and outwit environmental perils.
Unearth secrets tucked within hidden chambers, claim the keys that unlock new pathways, and hunt for the elusive crystal vegetables – fragments of the turnip’s shattered dream scattered across the land. For completionists, a constellation of stars awaits discovery. Will you help this ambitious root reach for the stars, or will its dreams wither before they bloom?
Navigating this world is a delightful dance of physics and produce. Forget simple walking; here, you orchestrate each of your turnip avatar’s arms with a crank, a delicate ballet of button presses (B to grip!) and calculated hand-offs. But the real fun blossoms as you unlock new moves. Soon, you’re a root vegetable gymnast, curling into a speeding, leafy ball, gracefully swimming through shimmering pools, and launching through the air. Think acrobatic turnip artillery: propelled from the water’s embrace or ricocheting slingshot-style between towering walls. Trust us; it’s pure, unadulterated, root-vegetable-powered awesome.
I love the way this game uses the crank and it really is just a blast to play.
Chance’s Lucky Escape
Goloso Games/Julia Minamata
Chance, “the luckiest dog in the world,” is a magnet for misfortune with a penchant for grand theft auto and the occasional bank heist. Loyalty, unfortunately, lands him squarely in the paw of the dog mafia. In “Chance’s Lucky Escape,” dive into a whirlwind of ridiculously short, point-and-click puzzle escapades. Across six bite-sized chapters, untangle Chance from one hilarious disaster after another as he desperately tries to make his meeting with the top dog, Snowball, all while dodging the long arm of the law. Get ready for a wild ride!
Channeling the spirit of Saturday morning cartoons and Zucker Brothers’ flicks, this game throws logic out the window. One minute Chance is strolling down the street, the next he’s battling sewer gators after a surprise manhole plunge! Escaping these bizarre predicaments – think underwater chair escapes and close encounters with disgruntled pigeons – demands some brainpower and a healthy dose of “what the heck?” moments. But fear not, puzzle-phobes! The challenges are more “ha-ha” than “hard-core,” ensuring a consistently lighthearted and hilariously absurd experience.
I quickly learned this wasn’t a point-and-click adventure for the faint of heart. The game throws curveballs – a crank here, a microphone there, even the accelerometer gets a workout. This foreknowledge proved invaluable during those head-scratching moments when I was utterly stumped, having exhausted every visible option. My best advice? Embrace the absurd. When logic fails, experimentation prevails. Think of it as a playground for your inner inventor. My recent foray into “The Whiteout” clearly prepared me for this brand of unconventional puzzle-solving.
“Bite-sized brilliance! Perfect for a lunch break escape. I’m hooked and hoping this is just the beginning. I’d eagerly devour more chapters of Chance’s chaotic life.”
