An immersive Android XR experience is scheduled for Google I/O, delving into the future world of mixed reality. Or perhaps Google is bringing even more allure with the smart glasses powered by the AI grimoire of Project Astra as shown at the closing sequence of The Android Show? Prepare for a reality check; the future is almost here.

Once the main show wraps, stick around! We’ll be diving deep into the developer-focused keynote (4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT). While we’ll keep an ear to the ground for any breaking news from the dev stream, our liveblog’s spotlight will remain firmly fixed on the headline event.

Tick-tock, tech enthusiasts! One hour until I/O ignites! Fuel up: grab those snacks and drinks-before the innovation explosion at 1PM ET/10AM PT. Let the countdown commence!

AI: The perpetrator or the savior in the scam saga? It’s poured fuel onto increasingly sophisticated schemes; however, just maybe, it can hold a key to fighting back. So now one hopes that AI acts as the digital defender.

So, The Android Show reminded me to tell you I just got slapped by my first-ever toll-road scam text! It popped up on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Really? Google guaranteed these AI would be doing away with these nuisances. Looks like the bots have been slacking off.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that update has rolled out quite yet, so hopefully that arrives soon. *

Car spotting: a mission incomplete. My feet haven’t yet trod all over the expanse. A quick breakfast stop was the fuel to ram my way into the keynote queue. I would put up a tankful as a wager that Android Auto bases at least one appearance some time in the course of the day.

Karissa, have you spotted any fun cars at I/O yet?

The Android Show last week passed a real bombshell: Gemini is coming to Android Auto and vehicles with Google built-in. Now is the question-will we ever get a glance of how this game-changer AI will transform the in-car experience?

May or may not be a coincidence????????

The only thing one could say now is that “Apple is…” Apple set up WWDC beginning-day invites to day of Google I/O? Not just a coincidence, it’s an open declaration of war. The gloves are off: clearly, Apple intends to steal the spotlight from Google.

The keynote is set. A little bit of shade for the comfort of attendees. The DJ played Taylor – an offbeat choice, but the groggy early crowd is trickling in below. Let’s just hope the wifi holds through the digital influx about to hit it.

Like, Cher, no way. I accept BEC with ketchup, never. That reason suffices to label this bodega betrayal not to be perpetrated even if it is New York-style.

The invites for the 2025 Apple WWDC keynote have been mailed out, and, well, Karissa, this is a hundredfold more thrilling than the breakfast sandwich you might be nibbling on right now.

Will we ever see better live music performances last year than what Loop Daddy set as the standard? The rumor mill is churning in the music collective-who’s taking the initiative to bring the feel-good audio bedlam this time around? Do tell!

KETCHUP!?!?!?! SAM!?!??! KETCHUP!?!??! ON A BEC!?!?!?!? *

“Best of luck securing a shaded seat, Karissa! I still shudder at the thought of the one I/O keynote I visited, where I baked in the sun – that afternoon, returned looking like a human crayfish.”

Happy to take the fancy avocado toast off the menu. Down with sun-dried tomato aioli! For me, a real breakfast full of need-wash-down memories: A bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. This, in its absolute form, is perfection. Give it a slight tap of ketchup, and I will probably barely judge. But anything else? That is almost blasphemous!

CES: Gadgets galore, innovations ignite…what about the catering? For years, I’ve envisioned myself, fork in hand, diving headfirst into the culinary offerings fueling the future at CES. Alas, time, that relentless enemy, always wins. My dream review remains, a buffet mirage shimmering just out of reach amidst the tech tidal wave.

I did fuel up with a very good Spanish [dish name] ( and a garlic- mayonnaise a fabulous secret weapon-surprisingly shy around the camera), and brace myself for the marathon of keynotes; wish me luck!

“Igor, 6.5 feels fair. That pastry appears to be balanced precariously on the verge of ‘desert dry’ with, possibly, a hint of concealed moistness. If I were on-site, the bathroom situation would, for sure, affect my rating. Shoreline’s bathrooms are, sadly, neither an Apple Park sanctuary nor a Googleplex palace. On that note… perhaps it is about time to start that ‘Big Tech Campus Bathrooms’ blog. The world is in dire need to know.”

Not gonna lie, lettuce on a bacon and egg sandwich is a bit weird. But that wouldn’t stop me lol. *

And the breakfast sandwich was brought to Karissa by Google. What the judge prescribes: in all probability, a good 6 or 7. And you? Rate this culinary beauty on the chat!

Velvet ropes coming down, the crimson zone has been entered. Caffeine and sustenance are the watchwords now. Just heard a rumour that bagels and pastries are fair game. Reconnaissance in progress… standing by to transmit confirmation (and hopefully, a plateful).

Karissa, what’s the breakfast and snack situation like at the press tent? *

We’re still a ways out from the beginning of the keynote, but here’s your two hour warning.

Previously in security, now I’ve taken to calling myself an East Coast early bird hangry outside Shoreline’s gates. This place trades bits and bytes for bass and beats most nights, owing to which Google wants even that rockstar energy to reside amidst their own shindig.”

Did the last week Android deluge slip past you? Relax! The Android Show witnessed the release of a tsunami of updates, with the biggest ones highlighted here. Android 16 with the new Material 3 Expressive design; enhanced device location security; and scammer protection-help are just a few of them. Oh, and here comes another one: On the good side, Gemini spreads across Wear OS 6, Google TV, Android Auto, and even cars with Google built in. So, finally, tighten your belts as the speedy arrival of the Android future is here!

Bless dear Karissa’s soul for going through one of those storms. I-95 would put the Mad Max parking lot before your eyes. But with her vehicle there… Home, sweet pixelated home.

A woman holding up a badge that says

Under the scorching sun in a seemingly endless ocean of asphalt, the word “Press” radiated in a scarlet splash to say Karissa Bell of Engadget. Her badge, on an old lanyard, reverberated with the promise of entry, hanging just about just in the air, a quiet beckoning into the world past the tent behind her. Life was ripe, just waiting to flake, energy kicking off.

Karissa got a Shoreline and a badge: great weather today with a lot of sunshine; and so if you are coming out today, you will have to carry along plenty of sunscreen. The show’s ready to start!
