An earthquake rumour from Cupertino has been doing the rounds. Aside from the usual comedy hour from Federighi and the sunny-sounding macOS codename, get ready to be bombarded by something visual: a massive interface redesign, maybe the biggest ever. And, would you believe it, more polished Apple Intelligence will be on the cards.
Visual redesign
Rumors are abuzz, so fasten all your safety belts for the visual quake! That is to say, the company is set to drop a plat-in-dash redesign so dangerously radical that rumor has it it’s inspired by Apple’s mixed reality grounds. Prepare to meet a UI unlike anything you’ll ever set eyes on.
Apple
The leaker Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech is whispering about a visual revolution: imagine nearly circular icons embellishing your home screen and Control Center. And the whispers dare not stop there: inside apps, seismic subtle shifts will transpire, such as a deeply reworked tab experience and an even more controversial hiding of the Messages search bar-all the way at the screen bottom.
The Apple regard in being mission-oriented towards building an operating system so seamless that going from your iPhone to your iPad and then on to Mac feels less like device-hopping and more like exploring different wings of the same digital home. The idea is: a unified design that somehow expects your need, be it whichever screen you see; imagine all these things working in harmony and smoothly with the way you think. That is the future Apple is working towards.
Do you remember 2020 when macOS Big Sur came into the limelight? That was the last massive visual revamp made by Apple on its desktop OS. Now imagine that: rewind a decade. 2013. That’s the year iOS 7 went boom! Detonating the skeuomorphic era to grace the flat-design era. Hate it or love it, with generations of iterations, the very core of this iOS 7 uprising still beats through your iPhone today. Radical? Not quite yet.
A new naming scheme
Forget about numbering versions! Whispers from Cupertino herald a massive naming shake-up for the OS. Imagine iOS 19 evolving into iOS 26, not incrementally, but astheiOS for 2026. Apple, we hear, would be getting rid of the confusing decimals for a substantially slick year-based naming system set up uniformly on all fronts. Think iPadOS 26, macOS 26… a much so synchronized software symphony, all marching to the drum of the annual calendar. Is this the sunset of the number age and the dawn of the “Year OS”?
Don’t panic; surely macOS will get another California-inspired name. The rumor mill in fact has it that Apple is not abandoning the Golden State naming tradition. According to Bloomberg’s sources, “Tahoe” is said to be the next in line for the applications, keeping the essence alive.
The iPad goes to work
Nathan Ingraham for Engadget
The 2025 will finally unleash some real potential for the iPad Pro. For many years, top-class tablets from Apple have been bursting with power specifications, especially since the M-series silicon’s coining. But software-side issues have prevented it from living up to the true “Pro” label. Is Apple intentionally crippling this tablet so as to sustain MacBook sales? Will that sort of evolution of the iPad Pro into a true laptop alternative result in the consumer-picking-phase of conversion between this and that?
Have you ever dreamed of having macOS on your iPad? Hold that thought. With any major OS swap being out of the question, get ready for some major iPadOS evolution. This year’s newest update is rumored to be a productivity powerhouse, turning your tablet into a multitasking-fun-machine with new app window management on their slate. Imagine something as powerful as the Mac but as portable as the iPad.
Apple has been gradually stepping toward pro-level software for the iPad. Remember iPadOS 16’s Stage Manager? It was a baby step. Or the multitasking menu from the previous year? Adorable. But for many die-hard iPad fans, it was nothing more than crumbs compared with the banquet of productivity they clamor for. Hence, the million-dollar question: Did Apple finally get down to business? Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman implies that the upcoming iPadOS “likely goes far enough” for even the most demanding users. What if this proves to be the promised land of productivity?
Apple Intelligence
Apple
Never whisper about it again. Apple is about to release an AI fury. From the moment ChatGPT came into being, the world of technology has been in a full-fledged AI arms race. Apple is going to flex her silicon muscles to show off the AI upgrades to your favorite features and also go down the route of a couple of entirely AI-empowered tricks. So, get ready for a big keynote swamped with artificial intelligence.
Siri
Remember the big promise Apple made last year? Siri would become so personalized, it would be as if it had the ability to read your mind. The intention was to have a digital assistant worthy of the name act before any visual record. Now, fast forward until today: crickets. The last we heard in March was Apple mumbling something about needing “more time” (thanks, Daring Fireball!) Their projected arrival? Some time “in the coming year.” Translation: don’t hold your breath here.
Something went wrong. Please try again.
Apple
Apple’s Siri woes might be deeper than we thought. According to Bloomberg, the major Siri upgrades will likely be well into 2025, definitely missing out on WWDC mentions. But the plot thickens further: nowadays, Apple is apparently trying to separate the marketing of “Apple Intelligence” from Siri. Because Siri is so far into disrepute that it drags the whole AI initiative down. Count this among desperate attempts to save their AI dreams from the Siri sinkhole.
Forget everything you’ve ever known about Siri. Not only was the 2024 presentation impressive, but it was a preview of the mind-reading days ahead, with Siri anticipating your needs and pulling together information stored in separate apps into one seamless tapestry. Imagine you’re using a really niche app to video record a rare bird, and Siri is there to seamlessly combine that footage with your project in the background, and you want to bring in a colleague for some collaboration, so Siri will prepare the meeting summary and send an email-without you lifting a finger. Have you dropped something in the digital ocean? Siri could be your personal digital archaeologist, delving into the murky depths of your online life to recover long-forgotten treasures. When system settings confound you, Siri is there for you, adjusting them and explaining the hows and whys. We aren’t just talking about an upgrade here; think of it as a quantum leap in intuitive tech.
Siri would get something of a quantum leap if Apple delivers on last year’s promises. It will completely change the game. But do keep those expectations for WWDC 2025 in check though-this could well be a longer game.
A complete revamp of Siri is out of the question. Instead, Bloomberg speaks vaguely of minor yet significant modifications such as the possible replacement of Siri’s intelligence by something like Google’s Gemini. Imagine asking Siri a complex question and getting a genuine intelligent answer to it-what a thought! That future may be nearer than one may think.
AI battery management
Apple
Tired of the battery on your iPhones draining away faster than your caffeine fix in the morning? iOS 19 is just what that device needs to feel alive and vibrant. Rumors do say coming forth from Cupertino is an Apple Intelligence side to get excited about: AI-battery management. Imagine an iPhone that studies your habits, anticipates your power requirements, and adjusts performance on the fly to ensure every capacity has been extracted from the battery. Worry no more about frantic searching for wall outlets; it’s right under your nose of intelligent power-saving. Should these rumors prove to be factual, what we have been dreaming about might turn into reality with battery life.
There are rumors that Apple is making something that thin and gorgeous – whisper it, the “iPhone Air.” This is the ultra-slim handset to be welcomed into the family this year. But might such a featherweight design translate to less battery life? The rumors fear that it will not survive the day without a secret weapon, leaving you scrambling for a charger. Enter the AI battery feature, seemingly rumor. Imagine: intelligent power management giving life to this unbelievably thin phone, making it not only beautiful but also practically brilliant. If this AI matter holds, “iPhone Air” would go on to become a game-changing blend of sleekness and plenty of endurance.
Wondering if there will be iPhone 17 mirage at WWDC? Almost on the lines of Gabe Newell stepping on stage to create an announcement for Half-Life 3. The rumored “slim-jim” is set to make its way to the iPhone 17 family, traditionally a September show. Apple, however, hasn’t really released an iPhone from under its WWDC hat since well before the iPhone 4, really before Steve Jobs left us. Short answer? Dream on.
Virtual health coach
Apple
Imagine a pocket-sized, AI-powered personal trainer for health. The San Francisco company is said to be working on “Project Mulberry,” which might comprise a Health app and an AI coach. The coach would provide personalized advice on wellness and might nudge you toward healthier habits, perhaps even offering some advice that you would generally get from your physician. Would this be the future of preventive healthcare within your iPhone?
Imagine having a hyper-personalized health guru living inside your Apple devices. This AI-powered virtual coach, fueled by your own Apple data and insights from Apple’s medical experts, delivers tailored health advice through engaging chatbot conversations. Think of it as a pocket-sized wellness oracle, offering customized guidance. Supplementing this digital wisdom, outside experts are preparing educational videos, and making managing health proactively more fun and more accessible.
It appears that the secret spell that people so long talked about as a virtual health coach might finally be conceived. Back in March, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had a jigsaw of iOS 19.4, with a pretty early-to-mid-2026 window. But wait a second! A recent Gurman report probably hints that the AI health initiative will take center stage atthisyear’s WWDC. Here it comes: Apple had a health bomb to drop.
A new gaming app
Gone are the days of scattered game downloads and dusty Game Center leaderboards. Apple’s going to deliver a gaming app totally in its own right for your Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV, says Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. Imagine a slick, pre-installed hub equipped with curated recommendations, a true game launcher, and social features rebuilt from the ground up to draw you further down into the Apple Arcade universe and beyond. Pure gaming nirvana, Apple way.
Hair Force One
Apple
Craig Federighi once said at an Apple keynote, “Expect the unexpected.” Previous to this presentation, the executive almost manged to get away with skydiving into Apple Park wearing a helmet that defied gravity (and hairdressing). But that’s just Federighi being Federighi. Remember when he pulled a parkour move on stage? Or that one time, he Force-summoned an iPad, just like a Jedi Master? And you can’t forget the Three-necked Guitar Jam. Buckle up; anything could be in store for you by Federighi.
“Hair Force One”: Whether you like to believe it or not, Federighi’s legendary hair is not entirely coding-free. Okay, maybe it is… withjusta dash of help from Apple’s special-effects wizards, of course. But in all honesty, the man knows how to put on a real show with his hair.
Mark your calendars, Apple enthusiasts! The developer beta frenzy ignitesimmediatelyafter the keynote wraps – expect code drops possibly thevery same day. Public beta testers, your turn comes early this summer. Then, this fall, prepare for the grand finale: iOS 19, iPadOS 19, macOS 16, and the whole gang arrive, presumably hand-in-hand with shiny new iPhones (peek the rumors: https://www.engadget.com/mobile/smartphones/iphone-17-pro-max-and-air-everything-we-know-about-apples-new-phones-153024282.html).
What not to expect at WWDC
If one shall consider even just a teeny part of what is expected to occur at the developer conference, it shall be a splash. But, honestly, some of the rumors are pure fantasy-levels now-this-is-wishful-thinking.
Apple hardware takes a little break. Just after consumer Macs and most iPads have been refreshed, with iPhone and Apple Watch repaints set predictably for fall, the rumor mill is in gentleicoed tranquility. The one lingering question mark? The Mac Pro. Apple has teased this powerhouse before at WWDC, but predicting an update to this infrequent flyer is like predicting the weather a year out-anyone’s guess. Don’t hold your breath for radical hardware reveals this time around.
